A young woman ecologist of Indian origin, educated and brought up in Switzerland, arrives in a remote Himalayan town for her research project. She is accompanied by her European boyfriend. During the course of her project she meets with three other young men who are also drawn towards her. Each of her four suitors represents a different attitude towards the environment. From among them she must make her choice.
The film, VASUNDHARA, was designed to inform, inspire, and generate more active concern for the environment. In trying to define the role of the individual in society, it explores the relationship between the personal and the general. It also examines the dynamic between information, knowledge, and wisdom.

Extensilvely researched, the film is set in the Himalayas, in an area rich in limestone. Here, in 1980, the Supreme Court of India, had, in response to public interest litigation, ordered the closure of mines in view of the environmental degradation caused by indiscriminate mining. Shot entirely on location, against this backdrop, the film uses fictional characters to weave a human story to motivate and inform people about their rights and duties towards preserving the ecological balance.
